Plan the month around real life, not just the calendar grid

ยท Planning

The best content calendars follow how people actually live: weekends, local holidays, the quiet Tuesday nobody wants to post on.

A blank monthly grid treats every square the same, and real life does not work that way. Weekends behave differently depending on where your audience actually is, some markets rest on Friday and Saturday, others on Saturday and Sunday, and a plan that ignores that will keep landing on the wrong day for someone.

Local holidays change what feels appropriate to post, and they are easy to miss if you are only looking at your own calendar. Building the plan around the rhythm of the week you are actually in, rather than an abstract thirty empty boxes, saves you from the awkward scramble of noticing a holiday the morning it happens.

It also helps to leave a little room in the plan for surprises. Some of the best posts come from something that happened yesterday, not something scheduled three weeks in advance, and a calendar with no give in it has no room for those moments.

The goal is not a perfectly filled grid. It is a month that feels like it was made for the people reading it, on the days they are actually paying attention.
