Keep an eye on the neighbors without losing your mind

ยท Competitors

Competitor watching should sharpen your instincts, not steal your joy. Here is how to look without spiraling.

It is easy for competitor watching to turn into an hour of doomscrolling that leaves you more anxious than informed. A small, steady habit works far better than an occasional deep dive that spirals into comparing every post, every like, every follower count.

Look for patterns, not single moments. One viral post from a competitor tells you very little. A shift in what they are consistently posting about, that tells you something worth paying attention to.

The useful question is not why aren't we doing that too, it is what worked here and would it actually work for us. Borrowing a format without asking why it landed just gets you a worse copy of someone else's idea.

Treat what you see as inspiration for your own voice, not a checklist to match line for line. And know when to close the tab. The point of watching the neighbors is to sharpen your own thinking, not to replace it.
